In this course we will rethink the development of proposalsand treatments as a genuine part of the creative process in filmmaking.
As a practical measure towards clearly envisioning projects, a better understanding of dramaturgy in moving imagesprovides opportunities to step back from the bareneccessities of production and figure out fundamental strenghts and weaknesses in our approach. Thus, we willidentify and examine three key elements of effectivedevelopment and to succesful grantwriting:
A written proposal / treatment, samples of (film/video) workand a financial budget.
Throughout the seminar we will explore how these elements will support one another so that projects turn up well thougt-out and persuasive. Finally, an enthusiastic proposal ortreatment may help us to get the money we need forcapturing reality in documentary filmmaking.
