This course provides an in-depth introduction to the political economy, business environment, and political system of Europe, with a special focus on European integration and the functioning of the European Union. Students will explore the historical development and institutional framework of the EU, gaining insight into the economic policies that have shaped Europe’s role in the global economy.
In addition, the course will cover contemporary political debates, including those on sustainability, with particular emphasis on the European Green Deal. By examining the economic and political impacts of this initiative, students will develop a comprehensive understanding of Europe’s response to global environmental challenges and the transition towards a sustainable economy.
The course is being taught by Dr. Levent Eraydin. As a partial fulfillment of the course requirements, students will prepare a working paper on a relevant topic of European economics or politics, demonstrating their ability to apply course concepts to current debates and issues. Students will also present their papers by the end of the teaching period.
By the end of the course, students will be equipped to critically assess key issues in European economics and politics, including the implications of European integration and the evolving role of sustainability in shaping Europe’s future.
