Studying and working abroad can be a rewarding experience for students. It is an opportunity to expand their existing education and work experience while taking in a new culture. The experience, however, can also be overwhelming for those who may not be prepared for the challenges of preparing for the overseas experience or the experience itself. 

The purpose of this course is to introduce the concept of working and studying abroad and create a safe space for students to discuss their dreams, goals and objectives while carefully identifying their fears, insecurities and issues with an overseas experience.

Through in-class discussions and self-study assignments, the students will learn to:

  • discuss their study and work goals and objectives;
  • conduct a self evaluation of their strengths and weaknesses and opportunities and threats:
  • identify resources and research information on target countries and educational institutions;
  • be familiar with required application forms and documents; and
  • appreciate and discuss different cultures.

  • Internet research on universities
  • Application documents (Cover letters, CVs, Interviews)
  • Concepts of culture
  • Awareness of cultural differences
  • Critical incidents

To obtain credit points for this course you will need to:
♦ attend at least 75% of the in-class lessons;
♦ contribute actively to classes (max. 7 points)
♦ complete home study tasks (max. 5 points)
♦ submit a written assignment (max. 72 points)
♦ take an oral test (max. 36 points)
